Jericho Road Covered Bridge

Jericho Road crosses from Baltimore County to Harford County over the last wooden bridge in both counties. This Civil War era bridge was built in 1865. Its structure is a Burr Arch , with a cedar roof and walls. In 1980 it was closed, unable to support modern traffic. The bridge was rebuilt, raising its weight limit from 3 tons to 15. Steel beams were placed beneath the roadway, and a new wood deck of two-by-fours was built. The cedar cover was also patched, and the bridge was repainted red. Care was taken to preserve its original appearance. It was reopened in 1983. It is now on the National Register of Historic Places.
