Professor of Civil Engineering

The Department of Civil Engineering has an opening for a full professor with tenure. The successful candidate will have an international reputation in a field that will complement or strengthen existing research thrusts in structural engineering/mechanics/materials, probabilistic methods/hazard management, geotechnical engineering/geomechanics, and coastal/ocean engineering. Areas of particular interest are hazards, materials, and infrastructure. In addition, the candidate must have a background of sustained sponsored research and teaching. An earned doctoral degree in civil engineering or a closely related field is required; professional registration is desirable. The candidate will be expected to provide dynamic leadership in his or her field, to interact with the professional community, and to contribute significantly to the continuing development of the Department. Duties include the teaching of undergraduate and graduate courses and supervision of a sustained externally funded research program. The Department of Civil Engineering has a young and dynamic faculty, with about 60 undergraduate majors and 30 graduate students, most of whom are Ph.D. candidates, and it maintains laboratories for graduate research in structural, geotechnical, materials, and coastal/ocean engineering. The University is renowned for its academic freedom, and the position offers a unique opportunity to individuals with a commitment to scholarly research and education. Applicants should send a resume and list of at least three references to Dr. Robert A. Dalrymple, Professor Search Committee Chair, Department of Civil Engineering, The Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, Maryland 21218. Women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply. The Johns Hopkins University is an EEO/AA employer.
