Full Scale Measurements On The
Kern P. Pitts Center

Weather Parameters

Wind conditions in the area are measured using a three-component high-fidelity ultra sonic anemometer (Gill Instruments, Solent) mounted on an anemometry tower (10m high) located about 100 ft. from the instrumented structure. Wind speed and direction (using a Young Wind Master Propeller unit) are also measured at the structure, approximately 2 meters above the top of the chimney. Additionally, rainfall, temperature and barometric pressure are measured at the test site.

Installation of Propeller Anemometer
Installation of the Young propeller
anemometer in October 1997. This
anemometer as well as the rain
gauge, barometer, and temperature
sensor are fixed to the top of the
chimney.

Installation of Ultrasonic Anemometer
Installation of 3-axis ultrasonic
anemometer in October 1997. The
anemometer rests on a telephone
pole located east of the Pitts center.
