Fall 2018 Recap

Fall Cookout

ASCE kicked off the semester with our annual Fall Cookout where undergraduates, graduates, and faculty caught up after a long summer over burgers, hotdogs, and cornhole. The cook out allowed for the undergraduates to reflect on their summer internships and share advice about the classes they were taking.

ASCE Steel Day – B&B Welding

On Sept. 30, students participated in ASCE’s annual steel day by visiting B&B welding. Students toured and explored the Welding factory, exposing themselves to some the structures they work with in their classes.

Volunteering with Second Chance

On a chilly October Saturday morning, a few undergraduate students headed to Second Chance in downtown Baltimore for a tour and to volunteer a few hours to helping the organization. Second Chance is a non-profit organization that takes apart homes and structures, refurbishes them and resells them. They are set apart by their drive to employ formerly incarcerated individuals and assists them with reentry into society.

SEA-MW: The Next Step Conference

Undergraduate students spent Friday Nov. 9th in DC at the Next Step Conference held by Structural Engineers Association in the Metropolitan Washington area. Students connected with other structural engineering students, professionals, and companies through seminars and a career fair.

ASCE Region 2 Assembly

Junior, Awoenam Mauna-Woanya and Dr. Sangree participated in the Region 2 Assembly held at George Mason University. It was an opportunity to connect with other schools in the area and become familiar with the ASCE leadership. From active workshops to informative panels, the Assembly was an informative event. Next year, the event will be held at Drexel University.

If there are any events or ideas you would like the student chapter to do, please contact a student officer.
